Synopsis
We're thirteen girls, captive, slave to our master.
A master we've never seen.
Obedience will become all we know in our shallow existence. It is the only emotion we're permitted to feel.
When we're bad, we're punished. When we're good, we're rewarded.
Our scars run deep. Yet we survive, because we have to...
because HE teaches us to.
All of us are special, we feel it with everything we are.
He has us for a reason, but it's a reason we don't know.
We've never seen his face, but we know that something deeply broken lies beneath the darkness. With every touch, with every punishment, we know it.
Then something changed.
He showed me who he truly is.
Now I want him.
I'll go against everything I know to be with him.
A monster.
My monster.
Loving him is a sin, but a sinner I am. I won't stop until I see every part of him. Even the parts he keeps locked deep down inside.
I am Number Thirteen, and this is my story.
No one said it was pretty, or right, but it's mine.
Jennifer's Review
“Loving
him is a sin; of that I’m fully aware. But a sinner I am. I won't stop until I
see every part of him. Even the parts he keeps locked deep down inside.”
This is not your typical
romance book. I have never read anything
like this book before, it is unique, it is twisted, it is different. There are some themes in this book that have
a dark tone to them but this is not a book that I would call a dark novel. It is more unique than that. It is one of those books that you either like
or you don’t, there is really no in between with this story, and I personally
loved it.
I loved William’s
character. He took an event that changed
him and his entire life and instead of letting it make him bitter, he used it
to try to help others. Sure, his methods
were far from conventional but I believe that he really did help those
girls. Number Thirteen was such a strong
woman. She had lived a horrible life and
even though she was scared and in a strange place she still managed to pull
herself up and keep going. She showed
that she truly had a kind soul by the way she handled that situation that she
was put in with Number Eleven’s punishment.
The other girls also brought a lot to this story. I also enjoyed reading about William’s
brother, Ben. I would love to read more
about Ben in a future book.
At times I think this book
pushes the reader to take a look at the actions we take on a daily basis. Do the things that you do make you a good
person? Should good behavior be rewarded
and bad behavior be punished??? I give
this book 4 twisted stars and can’t wait to read more from the fabulous Bella
Jewel!!!!!!!

“Nothing can

“A beautiful heart can never love a dark heart. But a
dark heart can crave a beautiful one, and it will. I will crave you, beauty.”
“Why?” I say, getting to my feet. “Because you’re not perfect?
No one is, William. Having a facial flaw does not change what’s inside. It
doesn’t make you ugly—only you can make yourself ugly.”
“It’s
in that moment I just see him for what he is: a jagged piece of glass that can
never be glued back into its spot because it’s not perfect. It has rough edges,
even though the middle is still stunning.
I’m a piece of gagged glass, too. Maybe together we can find a
way to fit.”
“A good man isn’t a controlling one, isn’t an understanding one. A good man isn’t the one who has a lover,
it’s the one who loves. A good man isn’t the one who punishes, it’s
the one who explains. I wasn’t a good man; I
was just a man. Now I’m everything a good person should be because of you.”
“Încredere
în întuneric, frumusețea .” Trust the darkness, Beauty.”
“I said, have
patience, Beauty. Patience is the
strength of the soul.”
“Your past does
not define you……”
“Love is only one element that a person holds inside
them. Combined with another person, it is strong enough to get through a great
lot of things, but when other elements come into play, like greed, lust, anger,
and jealousy, that love is no longer enough.....”
“I'm the darkness in the shadows, I'm the one no one wants to
see. I'm the faded man.”
“I can't let another person create who I am before I know myself.”
“I’m looking for a lover, Number Thirteen. I’m not looking to be
loved.”
